Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery

Dr. Wanda Kaniewski, MD.

Bariatric Surgeon

Dr. Wanda Kaniewski is a board-certified general surgeon with Fellowship training in advanced laparoscopy. Dr. Kaniewski completed her general surgery residency training at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C., and her Laparoscopic Surgery Fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. Dr. Kaniewski has been performing laparoscopic weight loss surgery for 15 years, and is the Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at the Minimally Invasive Surgery Hospital.  The program is a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).  It has been a Center of Excellence in weight loss surgery since 2007, and Dr. Kaniewski has been its program director since.

Dr. Paramjeet Sabharwal, MD.

Dr. Paramjeet Sabharwal is a board-certified general surgeon.  Dr. Sabharwal peformed his general surgery residency training at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD and at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C.  Dr. Sabharwal has been performing laparoscopic weight loss surgery for 15 years, and is the Surgery Division Chair at the Minimally Invasive Surgery Hospital.   The hospitals weight loss surgery program is a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). It has been a center of Excellence in weight loss surgey since 2007.  Dr. Sabharwal has been surgery division chair since 2005.

As part of a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgey Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a bariatric clinical coordinator is responsible for coordinating your peri-operative care in compliance with MBSAQIP standards and our program pathways to make your weight loss surgery as safe as possible, as well as assist you in meeting your education goals.

As part of a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgey Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a bariatric clinical reviewer is responsible for collecting our outcomes data in order to help us continue to improve as a program and surgeon, as well as to contribute to the growing MBSAQIP patient database to aid and promote sound research.
